Benzina expands its offer of fuels to include CNG [26.03.2012]

Brno, 22 March 2012Benzina officially expanded its wide collection of standard and premium fuels to include CNG fuel today. In cooperation with RWE it held an official opening for a compressed natural gas filling station at its Benzina Plus Brno Slatina location. It will be available to drivers 24 hours a day. Benzina plans to offer drivers further CNG stations this year.

"There are currently over 3000 vehicles that run on CNG registered in the Czech Republic and their numbers will continue to grow. Benzina wants to reach out to the owners of these vehicles and is therefore planning to expand this alternative to several further stations this year," said BENZINA's director of quality Václav Loula.

The official opening of the filling station in Brno was attended by members of the management of both Benzina and RWE, as well as representatives from the region led by the mayor of Brno, Roman Onderka.

At the newly opened Brno Slatina filling station drivers will be able to pay for CNG by bank cards, cash, CNG cards from RWE or fleet cards. The Benzina Plus filling station also includes an automatic car wash for passenger vehicles and a parking lot where drivers can rest and collect their energy before a long trip

The popularity of CNG in the Czech Republic is on the rise primarily due to the lower costs for running the vehicle compared to ordinary fuels. Vehicles powered by compressed natural gas also produce roughly 20–25 % fewer CO2 emissions. It is expected that CNG consumption in transportation will grow from the current 10 million ml up to 800 million cubic metres by 2020.
