Statement of BENZINA to the results of the 2009 fuel audit conducted by the Czech Trade Inspection [13.10.2010]

Benzina has long fought for the publication of serious deficiencies discovered in fuel samples taken from filling stations. It is trying to make it possible under the law for the Czech Trade Inspection (CTI) to publish serious discrepancies, i.e., those variances that could be harmful to human health, the environment, or automobile engines, or that are indicative of tax fraud. A list of the filling stations and data from the results of the CTI audit published on the website www.aktualne.cz are, however, not the kind of information that could improve public awareness.

Since 2001, the CTI has been taking from 220 to 240 samples of fuel from Benzina filling stations a year. In that time, it has never discovered any deficiencies in quality that could lead to any harm to health, property or the environment, or to tax evasion. This pertains to last year as well. A discrepancy had been discovered in only two cases (from more than 220 samples!) and concerned only a small variation from the flash point norm. This discrepancy amounted to 3° Celsius and only applied to a special mixed fuel: biodiesel with a bio content of 30%. All other parameters of these samples were in order!!! Benzina has also not registered any claims or complaints regarding the quality of the biodiesel at the filling stations concerned. The classic standard products, i.e., engine diesel and petrol, which comprise 98% of all of Benzina’s sales, were entirely problem-free for the whole of 2009 from the point of view of the values checked.
The mentioned list is not adequate in Benzina’s point of view also because it does not correspond in other cases to the information that Benzina obtained directly from the CTI.
For example, no deficiencies were discovered in any of the tested samples from the Říčany filling station during 2009. Benzina is a member of the Czech Association of Petroleum Industry and Trade (CAPIT), which also endeavours to have serious discrepancies made public. Over the long-term, tests within CAPIT have shown very good quality control results with a minimum percentage of discrepancies (annually only up to 1%).
BENZINA has been awarded the "Quality Seal", and the quality of its products is checked regularly by the independent SGS laboratory. Over 1500 fuel samples from the Benzina network are checked annually in this way, with 99.3% of them being free of any deficiencies.
